Pair it with Canon’s new 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens ($700) and get shooting.

 

Canon EOS 5D Mark II

The dSLR wars continue with the new Canon EOS 5D Mark II ($2700; November 2008). Not content to let the D90 have all the dSLR video fun, the Mark II sports a 1080p video mode to complement its 21.1-megapixel full frame CMOS sensor, DIGIC 4 imaging processor, ISO range of 100-6400, 15-point Autofocus sensor, 3-inch LCD with Live View, and more.

 

Linden Agave Singlefin Surfboard

A sustainable surfboard? Why not. Crafted from dead agave foraged from the SoCal desert, the Linden Agave Singlefin Surfboard ($2,500-$5,000) is great for the environment and even better for your beachside style. iPhone 3G

Time to upgrade. Apple overlord Steve Jobs just introduced the all-new iPhone 3G($199-$299). Besides the faster 3G wireless connection speeds and all of the previous revolutionary iPhone features, the new model also gets built-in GPS, better battery life (10 hours of talk time on 2G networks and 5 hours using 3G), a flush headphone jack, and iPhone 2.0 software with support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, the newMobileMe web suite, and a bunch of new downloadable applications from the iTunes App Store. The iPhone 3G also sports a new (and slightly thicker) glossy case in standard Apple black or white. Both 8GB (black) and 16GB (black or white) capacities remain. The iPhone 3G will go on sale July 11th in over 20 countries.

After a brief tease, Canon just got official with its EOS 5D Mark II. The full-frame shooter updates the original 5D introduced back in 2005 with a 24 x 36mm 21.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, DIGIC 4 processor with 14-bit analog-to-digital conversion, and the ability to capture Full HD 1,920 x 1,080 video — take that Nikon D90 and your paltry 720p. We’re talking expanded 50-25,600 ISO range,15-point autofocus with 9 selectable AF points, 3-inch Live View LCD offering 4x the pixels of the original 5D, and a 3.9fps burst for unlimited JPEGs or up to 14 RAW images when using a UDMA CF card.

With regard to video, the EOS 5D Mark II captures Full HD video at 30fps as well as VGA / 30fps for the first time on any Canon SLR. Of course, it works with any of Canon’s 60 EF lenses (and whatever Carl Zeiss cooks up) for ultra-wide-angle, fish-eye, macro, and super-telephoto videography. Video can be recorded at up to 4GB per clip which is equivalent to about 12 minutes of Full HD video or 24 minutes in VGA. Video clips are recorded in .MOV format using MPEG-4 video compression and linear PCM audio. You can even record with external stereo mics attached to an input terminal.
